Hi, I’m Kelly Parker—wife, mom, full-time first responder, lifelong dog lover, and the heart behind West Coast Cairn Terriers. What began as a single Cairn quickly became a calling: to preserve this remarkable breed through thoughtful, ethical breeding rooted in temperament, health, and heart. My dogs are raised as family, and every puppy is nurtured with intention, care, and respect for what a Cairn Terrier is meant to be—a bold spirit, a loyal companion, and a little dog with a very big heart.
My Story
Welcome to West Coast Cairn Terriers - Now West Coast Van de Engelenwacht
My journey with Cairn Terriers began in 2023, when my best friend and mentor invited me to become a guardian home for her exceptional breeding program. What started as an opportunity quickly became a calling. I fell in love with the breed and, through her guidance, learned what it truly means to steward a historic dog with care and intention.
Cairn Terriers are more than charming companions. They are a purposeful, working breed with a rich history, bold spirit, and unmistakable character. Once iconic, Cairns are now quietly approaching the vulnerable breeds list. Preservation breeding matters because when a breed’s defining traits are lost, they cannot be recreated.
My goal is to honor what makes a Cairn a Cairn—while thoughtfully improving structure, temperament, and health for future generations.
Every dog in my program is AKC registered, health tested, and OFA certified in accordance with breed recommendations. These standards ensure that our puppies are not only beautiful and well-tempered, but also built on a strong foundation for long, healthy lives.
The West Coast Pack
I’ll be honest—when I imagined a “noteworthy” dog, a Cairn Terrier wasn’t the breed that came to mind. I assumed they were too small to match the dog I envisioned. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
My first Cairn was Northwest Willow, and from the moment I met her, everything changed. She was fearless, intelligent, and full of heart—the kind of dog who makes you forget her size entirely.
Not long after, Northwest Cedar joined our home. Where Willow was bold and adventurous, Cedar was gentle, affectionate, and endlessly sweet—the kind of Cairn who wants nothing more than to be close to her people.
Together, Willow and Cedar revealed the depth and versatility of this breed. Their contrasting personalities became the foundation of my program and the inspiration behind producing Cairn Terriers suited for a wide range of homes—from outdoor adventurers to relaxed companions who are content simply being by your side.

Every thoughtfully bred puppy carries a piece of the past and a responsibility to the future. My program is built on intention, education, and respect for the breed—not trends or convenience. Each pairing is carefully considered with the goal of preserving true Cairn temperament, structure, and spirit.
